| Bucharest, Romania's largest city and capital, once called “Little Paris”, is today a bustling metropolis. With its wide, tree-lined avenues, glorious Belle Époque buildings, the city offers a wonderful sensation to every visitor. Romanian legend has it that the city of Bucharest was founded by a shepherd named Bucur, whose name literarily means “joy”. |

Public Transportation
The Metro (runs from 05:00 to 23:30) is perhaps the best way to get around the city, in terms of cost and destinations covered. There are two types of tickets: two-journey and 10-journey packs. The bus, trolley and tram services are also useful, and they run from 05:00 until midnight. Tickets are transferable for all three.
Tourist bus services traveling between the most popular sights in central Bucharest are available to tourists. Purchase a ticket at the beginning of the day and ride as many times as you like for the rest of that day.
You can also travel through Bucharest by maxi-taxis (small buses) that operate along the main thoroughfares that are likely to be roamed by tourists and nightlife-seekers.
Taxi
Most hotels have a taxi rank outside, but one can hail a taxi in the street as well, or just phone for one. It is advisable to stick to yellow taxis that charge by meter and have their rates displayed. Yellow taxis do not charge additional fees for luggage when coming from the airport.
