"A place charged with history and culture, the home of Dante Alighieri, Florence is synonymous with art. This is the city of rebirth and humanism, the birth place of modern political science thanks to Machiavelli and the Italian language."

Public Transportation
Most of the tourist sights are within walking distance, but if you wish to use public transportation, the best way to get around Florence is by bus. The city has a good bus network. For more information, please access http://www.italyheaven.co.uk/tuscany/florence/transport.html
Taxi
Taxis in Florence are white and are available at taxi ranks mostly at the main Piazzas. Taxis are convenient because they have access to most streets which are otherwise closed to regular traffic. Be aware that there may be surcharges for luggage, or if you travel late at night. The official tariffs can be found on the following page: http://www.comune.firenze.it/tariffe/TARIFFARIOTAXI.pdf
If you are traveling from the outskirts of Florence, it is better to call for a taxi, but the companies may charge from the time you make the call.
