Mole Antonelliana, the National Cinema Museum is the most famous building of the city. Its construction began in 1863 and it bears the name of the architect who built it, Alessandro Antonelli. Since 2000, the building has housed the Museo Nazionale Del Cinema, the National Museum of Film. The Mole appears on the reverse of the two-cent Italian Euro coins, as it was the official emblem of the 2006 Winter Olympics. It is also the official emblem of the 2005 World Bocce Championships and the 2006 World Fencing Championships. 

The Palatine Towers are an ancient Roman-medieval building and are among the best preserved Roman remains in northern Italy. The building consists of two polygonal towers, of sixteen sides each, and a central gate. They are located near the city cathedral and Palazzo Reale. The name Porta Palazzo comes from the Latin Porta Palatii (“gate of the palace”), referring to the connected Imperial Palace, which housed numerous historical figures, including the Lombard kings and Charlemagne, and was later the seat of the communal authorities. Two bronze statues (copies of older statues) were positioned in front of the monument during the Fascist era.

The Cathedral of St. John the Baptist  was built during 1491-1498 and is dedicated to Saint John the Baptist (Italian Cattedrale di San Giovanni Battista) is Turin’s major church which houses the Shroud of Turin, an old linen cloth with an imprint of a man’s face, which many believe to be the cloth that covered Jesus in his grave. Visitors can see only a replica of the Shroud, as the Shroud itself is brought out for special occasions only. In passages underneath the church, a free tour is available for tourists to view artifacts relating to the shroud, as well as a video regarding the shroud and other historical artifacts.

Palazzo Reale (Royal Palace of Turin) was the royal palace of the House of Savoy, built in the seventeenth century for the Madama Reale Christine Marie of France. Turin was the capital of the House of Savoy from the 12th to the 19th century and the royal family had resided in the palace since 1645. Its rooms are decorated with rich tapestries and a collection of Chinese and Japanese vases. The Royal Armory hosts an extensive array of arms, including examples from the 16th and 17th centuries.

The Church of Superga situated on the hills overlooking the city is the basilica providing a view of Turin having on the background the snow-capped Alps. The basilica holds the tombs of many of the dukes of Savoy, as well as many of the kings of Sardinia. Superga can be reached by means of the Superga Rack Railway from the suburb of Sassi.

Museo Egizio has the most important collection of Egyptian antiquities in the world after the Cairo Museum. The Egyptian Museum owns three different versions of the Egyptian Book of the Dead, including the most ancient copy known. An integral illustrated version and the personal copy of the First Royal Architect Kha, found by Schiaparelli in 1906 are usually shown to the public.

With more than 30 cinemas and hi-tech multiplexes in Turin and the surrounding area, premiere screenings and experimental cinema play a leading role in the city’s nightlife.

Shopping in Turin is certainly a multifaceted experience: you can begin in the boutiques of leading stylists or you can go in search of new fashions by young designers. You can make a visit to the many markets, such as those that sell food and wine produced in Piedmont – tasty souvenirs to take home or give as a gift – or the second-hand and vintage clothing markets, such as the Balôn, which also deals in high quality antiques, an area in which the city has gained international recognition, thanks to the rich collections of its galleries.
