Venice, the "Queen of the Adriatic" offers a unique feeling and an unforgettable experience. Haunted by a glorious past, this is the place where romance feels quite at home. Being a city of contrasts, Venice's nature is dual: water and land, long history and doubtful future, airy delicacy and dim melancholy.

Public Transportation
There are many waterbuses and motorboats to take you quickly to any place in Venice. Tickets should be bought in advance, those paid on the spot being more expensive. Tickets valid 24 hours are also available. Children less than 1m in height travel free of charge. You may be required to pay extra for your luggage.
The old city center is divided into six areas known as 'Sestieri': Castello, Cannaregio, San Marco, Santa Croce, Dorsoduro, San Polo. Some islands are also part of the city: Giudecca and San Giorgio, which can be seen from Piazza San Marco, the islands of Murano, Burano, Torcello and the Lido, home to Venice’s beaches and where it is possible to go by car, taking the ferry from the Tronchetto.
Getting around the city on foot is however the most efficient and charming way of getting to know the city. The numbers of the streets in Venice start with 1 in each Sestiere and go upwards progressively.
Taxi
Private water taxis carrying up to 4 pasengers or gondolas are expensive. They can be found near main tourist attractions. Traveling by waterbus or vaporetto is much cheaper.
