The Arena, situated in Piazza Bra', is an enormous, elliptical-shaped Roman amphitheatre erected in the 1st Century AD and is the world's third-largest amphitheatre. Wonderful opera performances are being held at the Arena, usually during summer.
In its “platea” and “cavea”, the amphitheatre could seat 30,000 people. The amphitheatre consists of three concentric rings, but only a brief section of the external ring remains the so-called “Ala”. 

In the center of the Arena, combats between gladiators and wild animals were being held, as well as tournaments and knightly games.
In 1822, the Arena housed the Congress of the European Nations, during which Rossini composed and directed the cantata "La Santa Alleanza" (The Holy Alliance), for all European sovereigns.

Castelvecchio is a 14th-century fortified medieval castle on the banks of the river Adige. The main castle houses Verona’s art museum displaying a collection of sculpture, statues, paintings, ancient weapons, ceramics, gold works, miniatures and some old bells. The Castelvecchio has an adjoining bridge over the river, which offers some fantastic views of the castle on the river.

Piazza dei Signori is bordered by buildings that belonged to the former ruling families of Verona, many of which are adorned with statues of famous men. In the center of the square stands the statue of the greatest of them, Dante Alighieri. 
Do take a good look at the frescos on the Loggia del Consiglio, enjoy the signature fish-tail battlements of the Scaligeri palace and the façades of the Palazzo del Comune.

Capitano and Palazzo della Ragione (justice court), which are also noteworthy. Also not to be missed is the archeological cutaway to the old Roman Street nearby. Grand arched entrances lead in and out of this square, the most notable of which is 
Arco della Costa, so named for the whale rib that hangs high above. This arch connects Piazza dei Signori with Piazza dell'Erbe, and is mentioned as a meeting place in Romeo and Juliet.

Basilica of St. Zeno (San Zeno Maggiore) is dedicated to Verona's patron saint, Zeno, a 4th-century North African and a keen fisherman who was ordained Bishop of Verona in 363. Zeno's tomb lies in a shrine in the church undercroft, and he is also commemorated with a grinning medieval statue of Zeno in full Episcopal robes, dangling a golden fish at the end of a fishing rod. The façade of the church is built in Romanesque style. The church was a center of European pilgrimage for centuries. 

Visitors across centuries have left their mark - pilgrims happily inscribed graffiti in the frescos, and signatures dating from 1390 survive to this day. There is also graffiti left by the invading Austrians in 1865.

Castell San Pietro (St Peter's Castle) – it is sited up the hill above the Roman Amphitheater. The building is not open to the public, but the views from the hill over Verona are so spectacular, that it is worth going there.

 

Nothing comes as close to an authentic Roman experience as the Arena, that is why tourists should not miss the opera performances held there. It’s a unique experience.
Walking around and experiencing the historical ambiance of the city is the best way to get to know and understand this wonderful medieval city. You can find anything from art galleries, multi-cultural exhibits, and public libraries. Or you could just take a break and enjoy Italian hospitality in one of the many cafés, pubs or restaurants. 

In bars you can get about any brand of spirits, snacks and other aperitifs, and don’t forget to ask for some 'bassotti', the local name for beer. To complete the overall experience, you can listen to a wide variety of music while chilling out with your friends.
Other venues, especially during the more warm seasons, consist of concerts, festivals, and theater performances all over the city and some fairs, such as the Vin Italy fair in mid April.

In Verona, the main shopping area is concentrated in no more than 700 m span, most of which pedestrian precinct. Here you will find department stores, brand shops, jewelry, antique shops and much more. 
In Via Mazzini, Via Cappello and Corso Portoni Borsari you will find designer shops such as Gucci, Armani, Dolce & Gabbana, Louis Vouitton, Prada, Diesel, Cartier, Mont Blanc, Iceberg, Etro, Fendi, and much more.
